Cycles: African Life Through Art

In African cultures, art is intertwined with life. It isn’t just hung on a wall or protected in a case. It’s meant to be touched, held, danced in ceremonies and rituals. It opens the doors and leads people through the passages of life that we all face.

This online exhibition allows you to see African art in the context of life’s changes: birth, maturation, transition, and rebirth. With emphasis on context and meaning, the objects featured in this site lead to new understandings of cultures and art itself.
