Dugongs are unique creatures that have lived off the coast of Qatar in the Arabian Gulf for millions of years. Today, these gentle marine mammals are at risk. In 2021 the National Museum of Qatar presented a major exhibition on dugongs.
Watch to learn from researcher Ismail Al-Shaikh about why dugongs are threatened, how to protect them, and what makes them such special animals.
This exhibition tour introduces dugongs through the lens of science. It explores their habitat, the seagrass meadows, raises awareness on the threats they face, and shows ways of how we can protect them and their ecosystem.
